This promises to be a great event. Keep in mind that the top 5 in each class (HVY and Light) are automatically entered into the 2009 ROCK KART WORLD FINALS later this year.

Hey Mark -

Was all fired up to do this on the 28th since it was so much fun last fall, but unfortunately I can't make the 28th for prior commitments. Will there be other races anytime in '09 that will qualify a driver for the World Championship race in the fall?

Yes, we will have several methods to qualify for this event. League racers have a chance to make the cut, and if there is enough demand for a "Summer Sizzler" we will do one in late July.

Thanks for your support.

Yeeeeahhh my first post. haha hello everyone!

This will be my wife and I first real kart race. This is perfect for getting a chance to "get our feet wet" and finding out what chassis's to buy (im purchasing our first rolling chassis's in the next few weeks if anybody has some used stuff. hint. hint.)

a couple of questions.......

what track layout do they run? National, Short, Long etc......
What chassis motor setup is it and can i find any more info on this series anywhere?

Is the Saturday 28th sold out? were trying to make hotel arrangements.

Thanks very much for the info.

Default Rock Kart Spring Sprints

I had a reasonably good time is October's "World Finals," except for the fact that I was (and am) ~220lb and couldn't keep the chassis off the track on the turn prior to the front straight. I think we were running the "Endurance Track" - will the 3/28 & 3/29 Spring Sprints be run on the same layout?

This next Tuesday Rick Hall will have his famous "free race school" all you need to purchas is some track time in a Rock Kart. I can assure you he will give you the secret to the corner leading onto the straight away so you have "guaranteed fun" this year at the event.

Thanks for sharing, usually the karts work better with a heavier guy, but this event will have a light and heavy division for racing.

Yes... same layout. I have been quick running at over 200 pounds, so I'm guessing you might be trying to do "too much" with the corner. Come out and practice! Rick or Brent can show you how to roll onto the front straight!

heavy is 200+, light is under 200 lbs.

Not sure, but we have ballasted some weight for drivers who are just stupid light. Not sure what they will do this year in that regards. Because of my workouts, I am down to 192 this year.. was 201-205 last year, so i guess i will be the fat light guy :-) bring it on.

Default Add'l Spring Sprint Questions

Marc: It's entirely possible I was trying to do "too much" with the corner, I'm working to find my balance (and patience) in a much larger world than I'm used to. This being the case, I may try to escape work on Tuesday to pick up some pointers from Rick or Brent.

Garry: If I understand things correctly, the "Spring Sprints" will run on both Saturday 3/28 and Sunday 3/29 for $65 each day, inclusive. What would be the cost of a Tuesday practice day in a Rock Kart? Again, there's no guarantee I can escape from work, but I will if I can.

well I'm certainly not stupid light but I've got you on weight by about 15 lbs. (less that is) I still don't think thats enough of a weight break to offset your track experience over mine lol.
I think I'm going to run on sunday.

I'm talking about the 120-145 pounders... tough to offset that type of deficit unless they make 2-3 mistakes per lap

You guys are using the weight as an excuse. I pulled a win in the heavyweight final weighing around 215 with gear. I also pulled off the fall lightweight league championship. There's really no substitute for track time and limiting mistakes. I am stoked for the weekend though, I hope we have a hell of a turnout.

Come on Adam - 15 pounds is nothing... I give up 25+ regularly. I'm talking your 215 vs. another's 140 and you visually see the 2-3 kart lengths lost off each corner it sucks.

I'm ready to go though.. at 192.. I'm in light, so I'm up for the challenge.

Hey now the only reason he pulled off that win during the league was because i ran fewer races. and he just BARLEY squeezed me out of first. so dont let him fool you. weight does matter. cant wait for another great season of seeing no one.

Wow..........
You know what they say about excuses. I guess that last win didn't matter? I am also pretty sure it was the fact that I didn't place worst than 4th and you had a a few bad finshes even with more wins. Consistency is key. I see your head grew over winter hopefully you put on some weight. Is anyone else hoping it rains this weekend? I am up for some rain racing.

Is there still room in the field on Sunday? If so, Bruno and I will head down there from the Ann Arbor area again - the race last fall was too much fun to miss out on this one, although neither of us can make the Saturday race.

WE have room for ten on Saturday.

Sunday, we will work everyone in for an event and qualifier.
Please call to confirm. The staff has tents up and heaters ready in case of the "polar bear" returns to Michiana.

might be a bit chilly - and possibly some moisture on saturday... but the rock karts are a challenge to drive in damp conditions... count me in!
