Hello Everyone, I have bought 2 brand new Birel chassis but cannot tell what chassis it is and what year it's from. I am going to just work on 1 frame first and it will be the one for the kids, the smallest one.
The frame # on the rear left side by cassette holder area, it reads: 031136 with L3 underneath of the numbers. In the front where the Birel Tag is, it reads: CSA1 4/1 or CSAI 4/1 or CS41 471 or CS41 4/1 or any of that combination. I would like to know what year it is, model caliper/mounting bracket I need and if a 40mm rotor fit it. I would also like to know if spindle "10E" is a good match for the frame? THANKS IN ADVANCE Last edited by Fresh101; 03-28-2012 at 11:06 PM. |

The chassis model is L3. Birel has not produced that frame for many years so it would be difficult to determine the exact age of the chassis. The L3 evolved to the L28, then C28X, C28CJ, C28Z, and finally to its current design the C28R.
It will take the 10E spindles you have as well as a 40mm axle. The brake caliper it came with originally was the cast aluminum 2 piston type with part number 10.1639.00 It will accept the C-X brake with part number 10.7717.00 if you use the caliper mount #10.8311.00 Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Regards, Chris

Thank you Chris for the help. I have another question, I just notice that one spindle is different than the other. Does Spindle "E" work with the frame? The other one is 10E.
Thanks in advance |

As long as the spindles are the same length you are good to go. The spindle that is marked "E" is the same as the one that is marked "10E" just a bit older. Birel stamped the spindles with just a letter to begin with and then added the KPI (in this case 10) a few years later.

Hello once again Chris. What front bumper can I use with this frame as it does not have any tabs or mounting holes for the bumper, unless is using a clamp style brackets? Thanks in advance
