ROTAX BREAK-IN AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE

Before the steps to take, there is one extremely important point that needs to be remembered. When breaking in your motor in cooler temperatures, It is vital to ensure that the motor is warmed up adequately, under load, prior to beginning the break-in process. Therefore, I would recommend the following be followed closely.

1. Mix 4 ounces synthetic oil to VP MS93 or equivalent gas.

2. Prime the fuel line prior to starting.

3. Make sure choke lever is on (in the UP position) & start the engine.

4. DO NOT WARM UP THE ENGINE ON THE STAND.

5. In order to ensure temperatures are at safe levels, run about 5 minutes between 5500 and 9000 RPM.

6. Once temperatures are above 115 degrees F, run for approx. 15 minutes not exceeding 9000 RPM, by gently rolling on and off the throttle. As RPMs climb to 9000, roll off the throttle down to 5500 RPMs, then back up to 9000 RPMs.

7. Let motor cool approximately 15 minutes.

8. Again, run approximately 5 minutes between 5500 and 9000 RPMs to ensure temperatures are at safe levels.

9. Once temperatures are above 115 degrees F, run for approx. 15 minutes not exceeding 11,000 RPMs by gently rolling on and off the throttle. As RPMs climb to 11000, roll off the throttle down to 5500 RPMs, then back up to 9000 RPMs.

After break-in it is highly advised that you completely clean the power valve assembly. Dis-assemble the power valve piston and bellows and clean thoroughly, the bellows should be cleaned with a mild soap and water, and the power valve piston should be wiped cleanly with WD40 and a shop towel.

When dealing with the Rotax FR125, there are three basic areas that need to be understood and paid special attention to. Those that take the extra time to perform the duties listed in these areas will be rewarded with a lot less downtime and fewer hours of frustration at the track.
