Many people say that they would do anything to have a job in an industry that they have passion for, but very few actually take the risk to do so. Tom Burke is one of those few people that gave up an 18-year career in the lumber industry to pursue his passion, a career in Motorsports. With a deep background in racing as both a driver and father who started his son in kart racing at four years old, Tom jumped on the opportunity to join the Michiana Raceway Park team as the Sales Manager and Youth Development Instructor.
“We have a lot of pride in our company’s philosophy of investing in people and surrounding ourselves with a good team,” said Garry Lobaugh, President of MRP Motorsport, Michiana Raceway Park’s parent company. “Tom has been a long-time customer and friend. He knows the product and has a great sales background with the ability to express what we can offer to others. We are looking forward to him joining our team.”
Tom will work alongside current track manager and racing school instructor, Rob Huffmaster, to create a strong team of support and coaching for the track. As Sales Manager, Tom will be able to use his years of professional sales experience to help develop new racers at Michiana Raceway Park while spreading the word about the track’s numerous programs including corporate entertainment, youth & adult karting schools and weekly Rock Kart leagues for the casual racer.
By starting his own son in kart racing at age four, Tom will be able to use the knowledge he has learned from teaching his son to race and transfer that into his role as Youth Development Instructor. The successes and struggles that he endured in his own family karting experience, coupled with MRP’s already established teaching curriculum, will allow Tom to relate to parents and their children entering karting for the first time.
