I have a Birel C 28 C-X with a 40mm rear axle. It came with a 40mm that first year this chassis was offered. The Kart seems to get tight after about 4 laps into a 15 lap race. Could you go over the basic set-up for this chassis. We run a Yamaha Kt 100 Jr class with the small carb and we run Bridgestone B tires. Weight of driver and Kart is 241 lbs. We race in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I am wondering wether we need to go to the 30mm axle or can we loosen this Kart up with what we have. Also wondering about tire pressures. I am somewhat of a novice in chassis tuning. Thanks, Mark

Which axle are you using? Are B tires obligatory? We have had very good luck with the F2.5 in 30 and 40mm with 1040mm length. 47" to 50" rear track width. In terms of tire pressure, the best thing to do is set the tire pressure at, say, 12lbs. Run the kart for 6 or 7 laps and check the tire pressure's while the tires are hot. Look for a 2 lb. increase. Anything more than that is too much and you should drop the pressure in .5 lb increments. Let me nkow if this helps.

Gary,
The axle I am using is a 40mm, the numbers on it are 40x3x1000-F. (Cod. 8150.06.08F Modulo 300. We can run any tire. This is a Cadet Kart. Is the axle I'm using too short ? My outside rim measurement is 45 1/2 " as I have it now. The front end is 2 1/2 spacers wide on each side. Ride height in front is centered. Thanks, Mark

Garry,
Could you also give me the factory specs for seat installation. We are at the end of our race season so I want to start with a fresh baseline set-up for testing in the off season.. Any and all set-up info would be great as well as a brief explanation of adjustments and what each one does. Thanks , Mark

Mark,
Go with the 30mm axle for sure. Rear width is consistent with what we raced with. Others have been critical of this width, but, it worked well for us. When swapping out the axle, tell Garry you'd like to purchase the 2.5 yellow axle. This unit was much more effective than the blue 2.5, at least for us. We are usually about 1.5 front spacers on the front. No you don't need the aftermarket axle that alot of others are using! We usually use the Freeline 2.5 yellow 30mm.
Make sure you have the new "ultra short" Freeline hubs - they are amazing! I feel that Garry is right on the nose with 12 psi. Check your guage against other guages. You might be surprised to see a huge difference.
Hope this helps,
Jody Karam

Chris wrote the reply on my computer. He is on the flight back to the US and will try to respond to your requests once he arrives at the office on Tuesday. Jody has all of the right informatation and we are very happy that Sage is on board Birel.
You may also sign on the birel.com web site, register as a customer and down load the factory specs as you suggested.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at the axle chart for Birel. Is the one you are recommending the 30x2.5x1040 B ? I have a 1000mm on there now. Do I want the longer axle, or am I looking at the wrong one. Also Garry said to log on the Birel and register as a customer. I did that , but I've been unable to find the factory specs for the seat installation. I'm probably looking right at it, but i don't see it. Thanks, Mark

We will do what we can to get someone to respond in the a.m. Most of the tech guys are just now arriving in the US after the dealer meeting at the Birel Factory. Sorry I don't remember the specs of how to get on the registration section at Birel, but we should have your answers for you soon.,

Mark,
Chris knows the seat specs that worked well for our application. Chris and Sage spent alot of time testing the seat angles etc. Sage is only 4-9 inches tall.
I am not sure of the axle length, but, I am sure Chris knows it.
Thanks,
Jody

I'm going to have to thank all for the info on these chassis have been running these chassis on Long Island with my two sons 9 & 11 years old with some success 2 wins and multiple top 5's in limited duty this season. Hopefully we'll run some national events and head up to OVRP a little. We just purchased one of Timmy Meg's chassis and can't wait to run it. The setup info certianly helps as starting with a baseline and moving foward and ( FASTER!) helps. Thanks Again, Luke Leonardi

Thanks for the nice words Marc, we run these C-28-cx chassis on a converted asphalt parking lot totally flat felt at times we had gotten pretty close with the setup as we had 2 wins. But I would like to know whether anyone has a real good setup I could try. Our spec tires are YHC Bridgestones & DBM/ DCM Dunlops. I can tell when I get close these Birels get very fast but I find getting them through the corners can be trying at times. Horsepower has been an issue at times but I would like to get a baseline setup that I could adjust from. don't forget I'm from the N.E. where it can get cold. Any help would be appreciated. Often we parents beat ourselves up over set up, when a good session with an independent (non family) driver coach would provide a valuable return on investment. The person in the seat can often be tuned with greater results than the chassis. This is a very high odds bet in my book. There is no magic set up, only one that comes with expermentation and persistance of testing.

Garry, My boys will be taking a driving school very shortly, in fact I had just inquired about MRP "s school with Marc. I know that where we are racing is not a high profile area of the nation but on any given weekend we get approximately 100 karts and only about 10 of which are Birels and 3 of those I own. I know we are not a high priority as far as some of the top name drivers in your stable but a good flat track setup for me to use as a baseline would have been helpful in getting my karts ironed out a little better. I'll keep working on them myself, I guess. Luke
