Hello,
I am looking to purchase a new Birel chassis for the 80cc shifter class...Nor Cal. I am 165lbs with a CTS Attitude as my previous kart. I like the solid feel of the CTS and may be looking for something of similar feel. I am a little confused on the "M" and "R" designations. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Michael

The CM 31 is the current choice for this application.

Just to add - I would recommend the CM31 chassis. It is fitted with front brakes and is a hybrid 30mm/32mm chassis so for the 80cc class and your weight, it would perform very well. Collin Lynn ran a CM31 in ICC and was in the top 3 in the time charts all weekend during the race of americas earlier this year. He is a light guy and make the kart work very well in ICC, so I am positive it will handle 80cc perfectly.

I would guess if you are in NorCal, you could get something from California Kartworld in Sacramento, or Cambrian GoKarts in san Jose. Both are very familiar with that chassis and we have them in stock so if they are out of stock they could have them quick.

Good luck Michael and thanks for visiting the forum.

As far as your R and M designation question - it refers to the frame styles. The "R" has a more traditional mid-section, yet has some bends in the crossmembers, where the "M" has a narrow mid-section that lends itself to amazing front end grip. Both perform great - just are tuned slightly differently.

Thanks for the info. I made the trip to see Bill at California Kart World. He pretty much confirmed what you had to say. A very informative and helpful trip. Thanks again.

Good news, that is why he is one of our top Birel dealers.
