just wanted to let you guys know that yesterday was my sons first race in a 2-cycle and the birel is FAST. weare running a 2002 R30 with a 2-cycle technology KT-100 at beaverun. we were the only birel out of 7 karts and we got 3rd. the first and second were 15 year olds (my son is 12) and were the 1st and 2nd place finishers last year in points. we ran a 1:03.09 to their 1:01.5 (kosmic kart) and 1:02.6 (CRG). our good motor is still in the trailer and we are still running last years tires (b-stones). we will be putting the spec vega blues on after our grace period at the 4th race.
overall i'm pretty excited about this year. my goals for this year were to run 1:04 by the end of the year and not finish last. now my goal is 1:01 and run for second and hope for first.
i'm still a rookie when it comes to setups and adjustments but this birel is making my job alot easier.
P.S. had a 15 yr old experienced yamaha sr that had a brand new margay and was running the same times as us and wanted to switch karts after racing to run some practice in ours but at the end of the day he just wanted to go home.
kart was pushing all morning and i had the front and rear as wide as i could go. loosened the 3rd bearing and that took care of it. gained 1.5 seconds with that. had alot of competitors checking out our stuff and commenting on how fast we were. had one guy try to buy the kart from me. i think with one more session we could've been up there with the second place kart.
