Dave’s Performance Karting Team News Round 2 Region 7 IKF
Team DPK deals 4 of a kind in Vegas…
Round 2 took the Dave’s Performance Karting race team to the Buffalo Bills parking lot in Jean Nevada to run on a temporary track designed by the Kerman Kart Club. With the roller coaster and slot machines running in the back ground this turned out to be a very enjoyable weekend for everyone on and off the track.
Saturday started out with DPK driver Michael Varela qualifying 7th in HPV 3. Mike took his DPK Birel R 30 to a 9th place finish in the pre main. Not ready to throw in the towel Mike made a charge for the front in the main event netting him a 2nd place finish and added to his points for the year.
On Sunday Varela Qualified 5th in Sr Super Box. Making another hard charge to the front came away with the pre final win. Starting the Main on the Pole it was not a walk in the park. After a hard fought 25 lap main, Mike came out on top with his 2nd Win in this class this year.
Brandon Toy would be the Next DPK driver to hit the track in HPV 4 JR. Brandon would qualify 5th in this field and manage a win in the heat race and a hard fought 5th in the main. Sunday was another story though as Brandon had a tough time in qualifying and only managed a 14th spot on the starting grid. Brandon managed to find some extra speed in his DPK prepared Birel AR28 and fight his way to a 6th place finish in the heat. In the final Brandon was unstoppable. With an Epic Region 7 battle Brandon fought his way to the front to win his first IKF race to the obvious approval of the largest fan club in the pits.
In the Kid Kart class Birel and DPK were on top again. Adam Iavelli, coming off a dominating win in the rain at the recent LAKC club race, qualified 3rd in a field of 23 karts for Saturday's kid kart race. He started the main event in 5th, after finding difficulty passing in the heat race. Although a slow start put him back to seventh place, by lap 2 he was up to 5th. He passed for 4th in lap 6, and when a crash took out the 2nd and 3rd place cars, he moved into 2nd. Running the fastest laps of the day, he passed for the lead on the white flag lap and held on to win his first IKF Region 7 race! DPK is looking forward to watching Adam grow with the team.
Tag would be out next and Cory Pollock would be the Driver to beat. Driving his DPK prepared Dave Sr Tuned M32 Birel Rotax Package to a pole time 6 tenths faster then the nearest competitor. On the start in the pre final Grant Hebner got the jump and the lead thru the first corner before Cory got around him and drove off to a 7.5 second win. In the Main it was much of the same with 2 drivers getting the jump on the start but by the 2nd lap it was all but over as Cory drove to a commanding victory with a 12 second lead lapping over ˝ of the field.
Other DPK drivers that made some impressive drives were,
Jacob Pearlman in his first Parking lot race worked hard to get a handle on the temporary circuit. In the Junior Superbox main, the track finally came to Pearlman and his Birel AR-28, but he had his hands full with a very competitive field running mid-pack. Pearlman ended the Jr. Superbox main in a disappointing but hard fought 12th.
Cody Swanson in HPV 3 had a hard time in qualifying but managed to improve all day. He qualified 25th of 33, finished Pre main 15th and finished the main 10th with an impressive drive.
Louie Pagano qualified 7th in the tough HPV 1 class only to lose a chain on the parade lap in the pre main. Louie charged hard thru a field of 35 karts to finish a very impressive 7th, ironically right where he qualified. Louie also had a 5th in Rookie Sportsman and a 7th in Jr 1.
Brendan Phinny put his Joey Hand Prepared Birel M29 on the pole of Jr Superbox and finished a respective 7th in his first Region 7 out after moving up. Brendan also had a strong 5th place finish in Jica.
Taylor Miinch Qualified and finished 4th In Jica in the pre final before getting turned around in the first corner of the Final, Tayor made his way back to 7th before the checkered flag dropped with a very impressive drive.
Cameron Jocelyn, Riley Reyes, Tyler Vance, and Ken Stewart also competed and added points to there totals working towards year end championships.
