I have a 1996 birel AR-4 chassis that I run as an 80ccjr shifter. I raced a skusa race at NCMP last year and just wasn't as competitive as i'd like to be. I was even to or slower than most of the people that I allways beat in Yamaha and HPV. I wanted to be more competitive so I have been looking for a newer chassis. I found a 2005 CR-31 with 3 races on it. I then went on the birel website and noticed that birel came out with an M-31. I ran a 2005 AM29 at NCMP in yamaha for a little while and liked it. I was wondering if you thought that the new M would work better or the older R. I had lots of problems with the AM29 in yamaha such as absolutley no straightaway speed. I took my best motor and put it on my birel and got passed like I was standing still down NCMP's long straights. Then I took my best motor an put it on my Margay with the same gear and passed every one with no problem. The AM29 ran the same times as the margay but just would not go down the straightaway fast, I would come out of the corner like a rocket and then pull up along side of them and then would get my doors blown off. What I had to end up doing was taking off 2 or more teeth and that helped a little but I only turned 13,600rpm instead of 14,700 on my margay. Would these problems still affect the higher horsepower shifter or is there any way to save my AM29.
PLUS I alligned my front wheels every time I came off of the track and that did not help. THANKS Jimmy

The AM 29 has worked great elswhere in the country. So I suspect there needs to be a closer look as to the entire kart. All dealers are reporting good results with the AM 29. I'd suggest you get together with your dealer to discuss and have them look itover carefully.

I purchased the kart through Motorama Kart Parts (MKP). They didn't know anything about this 'bind' but in my AM29 I beat them every time I race them and down the straights I beat them too. This bind only happens at NCMP and Jacksonville where the straights are very long and straight. I raced at Daytona last month and wanted to run my AM29 down there but I was told that the kart would not stand a chance against the margays, then in HPV 2 Julia Landour ran her AM29 and came in second. I had the kart looked at by Comet Kart Sales (margay/ motor builder) and we scaled it out and aligned everything but this did not help. Some one at the tag world championships at NCMP with an M32 had the same thing happen and he found a birel tuner and the tuner aligned the front wheels with the rear axle and then he flew down the straights, have you heard of this before? Is there any birel tuner that could look at my kart? THANKS Jimmy

This service is available via Tim or Chris at Austin Texas or Three Oaks. The AM 29 works great!

Jimmy,
If you can get your kart to my shop, I will take it up to MRP and have them take a look at it at my expense. We would like to keep you on the Birel. Hope this helps.

Thank you

Mr. McLaughlin
Thank you for being willing to help. I will take you up on your offer, and get my kart to your shop. I would like to give the birel another chance and try to get the birels ground back from the margays.

THANK YOU Jimmy

Other than Boswell, who/what other classes were won on Birel? I couldn't find the release on ekartingnews; I searched "Birel" "MRP" and "Daytona"...

Tag heavy both days.
Mini max both days
Doug cox both days 125 shifter not sure which class
Rusty ferguson day one, expert shifter
I'll try to find the press release and forward to you.
Boswell did not win. Branham was in the lead on day two of ICC on the last corner when 2nd place drove straight for the radiator and right over the top of John thus placing him 2nd as third place drove by.

Mike must be talking about Daytona because Boswell won ICC final 1 and 2, I think you are referring to the Florida winter tour.

Yes I was referring to the Florida Winter tour. You are correct.

You are also correct on me referring to Daytona (specifically Man. Cup)... I thought that's the race this conversation started around?
Anyway, the Winter Tour results were interesting too...
