We went to the opening race for the Ohio Valley Karting Association with our new Birel Q31 in Masters Class. We had ran a Q31 last year in Yamaha Lite with good results.
This year our lite finished in third place for the first race even droping out of the final heat with engine trouble.
In Masters class we finished in seventh place for the first heat. This was my first time on the Q31, and I had a little trouble adapting to the first class handling qualities of the Q31after driving an Arrow last year. Sure glad I made the change.
In the second heat I passed the lead Kart, an earlier model Birel, on the last lap for the win. Not bad for a 63 year old goat, Huh?
The Birels faired well with new owner Mark Lewis finishing in front of me for a third place overall. Joel Stafford finished third in Lite, and I finsihed fifth overall after me clutch let me down on the start and I dropped back.
Better luck next time I guess.
