View Full Version : Which axle for wet?

I've seen advice to use short hubs for wet conditions. I'm wondering whether this extends to using a soft axle. Our standard is a 50mm "F" axle and we have a medium available if more rear grip is required. However, if rain is possible, it looks like it might be better to stick with the soft axle.

I sometimes have this dilemma when preparing the kart for a race meeting when cold weather and/or showers are forecast.

Any advice?
Thanks
Simon

I have learned to go soft...and it really bit me in the ass at the last race.. Not because it wasn't the right thing to do for the wet. I went crazy setting up for wet thrashing away and by the time I got through parc fer me the track was drying quickly. There I was with the full on rain set up and... well, sorry Wesley. Anyway, my theory is that soft makes more traction. When you run on the stiffer end the chassis will slide more because the tire is pushing harder on a wet surface. If you are sure that the track will stay wet, it is worth changing the axle, but if there is a chance that the track is going to dry then just be patient and let things come back to you. If the track is drying and the officials require you to use wet tires then run your dry set up on wets with low tire pressure. In my opinion and take it for what it's worth.
hope this helps.

Thanks Chris. It makes sense to me.
