Hypothetical question: With a lower powered kart (kt100 Sportsman), would taking the third bearing off the axle help free the kart up? I know that loosening the cassette is common but wouldn't taking the whole assembly out be more beneficial by reducing the drag a little? Thanks

All you can do is try. That is what we do when we go testing. Each driver, each track will require different set ups and no one has the magical answer.

I removed the thrid bearing in my HPV last year when the track got too sticky and I was already using a soft axle. It worked out great.

I run without the third bearing in Rotax/TaG at 365# (on an M32).
I mainly do so for weight and to have a brand new spare bearing at hand.
To be honest, by the time I get the bearing switched in a back to back test I
cannot feel the difference beyond how much the track may have changed
anyway.
