View Full Version : Axle Bearings
Garry,
What is the easy way to remove & install the axle bearings from the 40mm blue motorsport bearing cassettes. Any special tools needed? It seems alot harder being non-split even with the gap at the pinch bolt. Thanks!

We take an old axle and cut to about 18 length. Then work the bearings around in the cassett to loosen up with wd 40. There is a special slot the bearings have to line up on to twist through to open up. I'll see if I can shoot a couple of shots to show the location and the technique. No special tools are needed.
Garry,
I had no problem getting the bearings out, but can't seem to get them in. I hold the cassette in a vise between the pinch bolt pad and the bolt hole 180 degrees across with the slots facing up. I then try to rotate the bearing in using the axle. I use anti-seize compound on the cassette. I ended up cracking the cassette at the bolt hole. What did I do wrong? Thanks

I don't have the answer. But I'll try replacing a bearing myself. Everyone is on the road and Caroline and I have two tracks to operate this weekend, so it will be Monday before I make the attempt.
