While attending the Stars first race a customer handed over one of the new airboxes (red 2004 homologation)by Free Line. The plastic had deteriorated right where the rubber boot connects to the carb.
I spoke with Birel Motorsports at Moran and showed the sample. The suggestion that Birel SpA wants to pass along: the current air box works best with cleaning compounds of soapy water. Carb cleaner or brake clean will cause this new material to deteriorate. In order to come up with the proper solution for the noise reduction requested by European rules makers they found a different material than that used in the Blue style airbox that we use for Mx motors and 100 cc applications.
It is suggested to consider an alternate form of cleaning the air box other than harsh chemicals. I hope this message assists in preventing any future concerns.
