Looking to get a Kart... One seriously being considered is a '08 Briel R-31, for running in OVRP in NY. Most of my time will spent praticing.

Kart I found has a Leopard... Would of perfered if it ws a Rotax or even a roller, that I could put a PRD on.

At 46 YO and 200lbs, and only recreationial intrest, I'm thinking I may find Tag to be too intense for my first Kart. I want to have an option to go to a lower HP enige for first season or two. Something other then the KT100 Shark Tank. Most deseriable is is the World Formula Engine. Anyone know how efective and easy it is to install one in this Kart? Just don't want to scare myself out of the sport.

Hi Racer,

First off, the Birel R31 is a great kart that is versatile and would be a great choice for you at your weight for either TaG/Rotax OR 100cc. Easily interchangeable with either engine package too - so no worries there.

I know that Tim has a '08 R31 Birel ROTAX package there too, if you are interested. Otherwise, pull the IAME, sell it, get a yamaha, get comfortable, then upgrade to a Rotax next season. The World Formula engine should also be acceptable with that chassis and has similar power as the Yamaha. Does OVRP accomodate the WF class? I know NJMP does - but I believe OVRP would be closer and they have trained technical support for Birel.

Marc - Thanls for the info. I'm considering 3 Karts at this time, 2 birel and one older CRG. The Birels are very desirable for thier adability and support. The R31 is appealing. They are slightly outside the the budget, hopeing to see if i can swing it...

CRGs are great, but for a newbie, the sweet spot can be tricky to find. Birel is by far the best kart I have owned or driven. You won't go wrong with red. The Monza blue works pretty darn good too!
