View Full Version : RX30SE Weight Placement
My son started racing in Aug of 2008 in the cadet class and we never had to add weights to his kart. He recently aged up into the Junior class so we purchased him a RX30SE chassis. I finally had the opportunity to scale his kart this weekend and we need to add about 35 lbs to the kart. I don't have enough experience with karting to know how to mount the additional weight. Is there a front to rear weight distribution I need to maintain? Where is the best place to start mounting the weights?

The best place to mount weight is on the seat. Start with the lower left back of seat, then the left front thigh, then add another to the lower right back of seat. You may also add another above the left side, front center and right thigh area. I add 30-35 to my kart to make masters weight.

I would try to keep the weight more towards the front and the sides of the seat to begin with in the lower horsepower applications (KT 100 with SSX exhaust, HPV, etc.). If you are using anything larger than a Tillet SCD you can get 15 lbs on the front of the seat (in 5 lb increments), 10 or 15 lbs on the left side of the seat, 5 lbs on the right, and then fill the rest on the back of the seat as needed. From there you can move weight around if you need to...hope this helps.
Do I need to apply any weight to the front of the kart or do I keep it all on the seat? By the way, this is a Junior Leopard.
Thank you both for your assistance.

You shouldn't have to mount lead on the front of the kart. The RX30 has plenty of front grip...
Hello from Finland.
We just bought chassis R31 SV (2007) and now we are wondering about seat and extra weight location... Adjustment context:
- senior class race. The car will be shared between 3 drivers in each race as per rules (3 starts / 3 drivers).
- Minimum competition weight is 160kg (353lbs).
- Engine Raket 120 (14hp)
- Tires Vega SL8, tire's "grip" is just below medium. http://www.vegatyres.com/en/pneumatici.htm.
- Race track always same, only weather condition varies :D
The problem is that we have to find compromise for adjustments, as between the starts is no time to do much work with the car. Drivers varies from 65kg to 75kg and 174cm to 180cm. Could we use similar system as above ? 15 lbs on the front of the seat (in 5 lb increments), 10 or 15 lbs on the left side of the seat, 5 lbs on the right, and then fill the rest on the back of the seat as needed. How about seat location?
Thanx in advance...
