Step 1's

Having never even really seen the step one karts I have a few questions. Do you guy typically get anyone out racing the things? Having won the Rock Kart Championship and getting this year free in it I am just wondering what kind of competition I can come to exspect. Is there a weigh in? Do people actually own this style of kart?Or is it more a rental type deal? Just wondering what I am getting into in the months to come.

EDIT: I confused Step 1 with the 100cc Yamahas, sorry!

I ran a Step 1 in a race early last year, and was the only arrive-and-drive that day. However, I was able to run with one of the other classes (can't remember what it was called - Yamaha Senior Can?) and was able to mix it up at the tail of the field with the owner karts. In better hands, I would expect the Step 1 to be competitive in this class - I believe it is the same engine, and a "normal" race kart chassis - not sure if it is on the same tires, though.

One of my friends ran a Step 1 race last year and there were 4 or 5 Step 1s in with the Yamaha Snrs, so I think your competition will vary from week-to-week. I am trying to get a couple of guys together for the April 26th date for Step 1s.
