Baseline Set-Up information for Birel AR28

-Camber should be 0 to 2mm positive on the stand.
-Caster is 15 degrees static (central pills) and we have run up to 16.5 degrees (1.5 degree pill) in the heat of the summer IF the tires show an understeer.
-Adding caster will only make the kart harder to push in the pits, but, again if the tires do not show an understeer I wouldn't worry about it.
-Remember when you are using the Sniper gauge; one box equals 2mm not 2 degrees, one dot equals 1mm.
-2 degrees of positive camber means that you have 12 degree spindles on a 10 degree kart.
-We have had AR28 CX's as both 10 and 12 degree front ends...the R30C has only come in as a 10 degree kart.

AR28z baseline

This is for MG SLE tires on a decent track (not too slippery, not too sticky).

-Spindles in the middle
-central pills
-5 1/8" front wheels
-no front bar, one thick and one thin spacer wide
-1040-F axle in the middle and up position
-short rear hubs, 1 1/2" in from the end of the axle
-5 1/8" rear wheels, no secondary seat stays

Is there a baseline setup for NewCastle or will this work?

This is the base line. Until you go test, I don't think we will find a magic answer as each driver is different. At this time of the year the grip conditions are going to be much different than when you might have left the track last fall. I'd urge everyone to get out and test as soon as possible at their favorite track.

This is a good starting point for you from our experience.

Is there a chart or map for lack of a better word that helps give you a guide to tuning? We are just getting started and Im looking for info like if the front is pushing narrow the front track, when to add the front brace in, when to widen and narrow the rear track width etc...

I realize I will build this info as we go on but it seems the basic tuning info would be pretty standard and available somewhere. Hope to make our first race labor day weekend if all goes well...

This is an excellent question Sean. One of my winter time projects is to take all of the postings that Chris, Tim and Marc have made on the forum and create such a handy tracking device.'

At the moment, I do not have anything published. But send me an email at mrp@qtm.net for me to capture your email address and I'll forward a document that we use in our Winter Seminars under chassis tuning. It is the closest thing I have at the moment that will be of assistance to you.

Winter seminars start the first Saturday of December and each month after that during the off season. This year we are looking at doing a web seminar service for interested long distance viewers.
Look forward to seeing you Labor Day weekend.
