Hi,
Was wondering what it would take to convert my 08 R31's WAVE rotor to the new 09 cast iron floating rotor system. I see that the official release from Birel offers steel vs. cast iron as an option, so could a guy just replace rotors and pads? Or, like from 07 to 08, is the 09 system very, very different again?
Thanks in advance,
Jared

Unfortunately the caliper is a bit wider on the 09 chassis to accomodate for the cast iron disc which is wider than the steel disc so you would have to replace the caliper housing and disc.

Jared-
To add to this, the 2009 brake calipers were designed to "retro-fit" to steel by using shims. But as Chris mentioned, putting the new cast-iron rotors in a previous model chassis would take a new caliper housing.

i am also interested in updating my brake system on my 08' c28 cadet. is there a big noticeable difference on braking power on the new 09 brake system vs the 08 brake system on my c28 cadet? and am i easily able to upgrade the brake system? thanks

Jonny... looking at www.GoBirel.com, the 2009 C28z uses the same "c" caliper and 150x12mm vented rotors as the 2008 model.
I will get further clarification on the pads and conversion to a steel or solid cast rotor and what you would need to make that change.

Oh okay that makes sense - thanks guys. How has the reaction been to the new cast iron system amongst the drivers?
