I have just gotten an extremely low mileage 04-05 r31 from a guy who raced it maybe 3 or 4 times .. he never really got into tuning the chassis and this is my first kart so i have only a basic understanding of what to do to tune the chassis .. any pointers would be greatly appreciated

Congrats on you find.

I suggest you search through our archives, The base line data is there for the searching, I urge you to dig in.

One thing i can't find info on is on the left side of the drivers seat there are two frame rails and there are two blue bars bolting them together what are those for and what happens if i remove one or both of them ?

Trini... post a photo. It is likely the removable 4th rail. This rail is held in place by two aluminum torsion clamps. The clamps make the bar fixed in the chassis. This stiffens the chassis and usually provides more mechanical grip/side-bite. When you remove it.. the kart will free up more and might slide more, which is good if the track is grippier.

Ahh. Sorry Trini, forgot you mentioned you had an '04 with the fixed 4th rail. The same thing can be done.. you may run the bolts tight, run them loose or remove them. This will vary how stiff the mid section of the kart is. If you feel you need more side-bite or mechanical grip... run it tight. If you want to free it up a bit, run them loose.
