Lets hear them. I thought this would be a good post for all of us to list our goals then we can review at the end of this year and see how we all did.
1.) My 2009 goal is to make more races then I did last year (8)
2.)improve on my lap times by .5 in each track configuration I race.
3.)Finish top5 in the points. (eleventh last year I believe)
4).I also have another goal of staying out of the gravel traps(because a complete tear down and cleaning of the rear axle bearings is something I could do without.)

As for Garrett and I's goals for 2009, His second year in Jr1.
1) Club Championship (Now the Austin Dement has moved up)
2) Top 3 in IKF R11.
3) Top 5 at the Grand Nationals which we are hosting at our home track.
4) Not go broke and have to sell everything.
All of them are lofty, but hell aim high.

Here are mine:
1.) First off, this is my first year on a Birel so my number one goal is to have fun all year long on a new kart. We all do race for fun no matter what so that is by far my first goal.
2.) no DNF's. I had 3 last year in 24 races.
3.) Win Daytona...... COMPLETED!
4.) Win WKA national championship (road race Stock Honda)
5.) This year will also be my first year running in Stars of Karting. I hoping I dont tear up too much equiptment and win a few races to pay back some of the cost of the new kart.
6.) Not have a single warranty repair on a customers engine (I had one last year that was a tranny issue. It was parts issue, not my assembly error).
7.) Did I mention have fun? Thats so important that it has to be both the first and last priority as its twice as important as anything else!

I'll join in!
Background. I am 35 years old and have been karting for nearly 7 years. I started in Rotax and won the 2006 MMP Rotax Master Championship. In 2007 I finished second in the same class to a very fast young kid named Maverick Bartlett, and finished 9th at the SKUSA Supernationals Rotax Master class. For 2008, I began to help MMP develop a new high performace 4 cycle class called Yamaha F200. In November, I finished 12th at the SKUSA Supernationals in TaG Masters, on a Monza Z32/Rotax.
For 2009, my goals are:
1. Continue to help MMP develop a the low cost, yet high performace Yamaha F200 4 cycle class. Along with Mitch Wright, we aim to show that price point karts can compete competitvely at the club and national levels. Mitch and I both run Birel/Monzas. We started with 2 F200s running and have set a goal to have 10-12 by the beginning of the summer series 2009.
2. Win the MMP Burris F200 Championship
3. Represent MMP at the 2009 SKUSA Supernationals on a Birel and finish in the top 10 with a Rotax.

This is actually a great discussion....
I am committed to helping everyone else achieve their racing goals through strong customer support, training and coaching through MRP.
I likely will not run many kart races this year after a great 2008 of karting (US Rotax National Masters Champ).
Many don't know 3 years ago I left CASCAR (Canadian NASCAR) as a driver to pursue more work in sports car racing and became a test driver, coach and engineer for a championship winning Mazda MX5 Cup team. Over the past 2 seasons I have acted as engineer for the team and we have won 2 consecutive championships.
For 2009, I was asked to step in as a driver - so I will be returning to a championship season this year and I can't be more excited.

All great reads and goals! I personally think it's much easier to work to obtain your goals when you write them down. Good luck to all that have posted to this point!!
Whether you are a driver or crew member, trainer or team owner we all have goals to acheive. Let's hear some more. I know your out there. Don't be shy.
I had also forgot to post in my goals that I wanted to get down under the class weight minimum. I have to this point lost about 20 lbs. and am looking forward to filling that fuel tank all the way up to make weight as opposed to running it close to empty last year. I was about 15/18 lbs. overweight with my kart last year.

Goals should be measureable:
Club points finish.. such as champion or top five.
They should be written, shared and reviewed.
Then an action plan should be implimented as to how to obtain those goals. For example, in order to win the championship, I need to practice at least once a week, do 30 minutes a day of exercise or lose weight. There are many ideas on how to accomplishe the goals. The key phrase to remember is: "one can only manage the activities that lead to results, you can never manage the results themselves."

Missed this one during my one month hiatus from the forum.
1. Don't crash out of any races- Finished all my races last year, would like to do the same this year.
2. Learn more about the engine and working on the kart- Not really a measurable goal but before last year I didn't know how to do anything, but after being shown how to do everything 25 times i might finally be learning something...
3. Bond with my competitors- Last year my class had kids from 15 to adults at 50, with only 3 people close to my age, but this year there are 10 of us or so, and I would like to develop some quality friendships. (Already decent friends with most, but still need to get to know a few)
4. Get a podium (top 3)- The competition is going to be insane so if I can get a single podium finish I will be ecstatic.
5. Get within 15 pounds of the weight limit for the class- Last year I was 25-30 lbs over, and this year I will probably be even more over with the heavier engine, but by summer I would like to be within 15 pounds of the weight limit. Gotta quit drinking the pop when I'm working, also save Garry some money. :) I've also been running after school.
6. Learn to roll with it- Last year went awesome until the last 2 races and when trivial things happened I panicked and lost my composure... Would like to learn to be mellow and roll with the punches.
I could go on and on but I'll stop there. Jody hold me to these buddy. :) Best of luck everyone.

All great and realistic goals Sean. You had a stellar first full season in The senior can class and you should be able to look back and realize that what you accomplished was huge. I have no reason to believe that you not only will realize the goals set forth this year but eclipse most of them. and I will hold you to them.... every step of the way. ;-)
Hey by the way who has got some lead weight for a kart I could buy??? I'm down to 185lbs. and think I might be needing it..???? :-)
