Can somebody please help me with a base set up for my RX 30 that I am using for Junior Rotax. I also would like to know what height my spindles should be at for base start, and what effect either of the front bars have. When should I use front bars? I am 5' tall and 80 lbs.
Thanks,
Brody:)

1040x50x2 F axle down, middle bearing tight, 100mm hubs, rear at 54", no side rail, one seat stay each side, spindles up, 2 thick spacers wide with 75mm hubs, 2mm toe out, 0-2mm positive camber, short front bar to start with. The long front bar gives you more front grip, the short front bar gives you less front grip. Hope this helps.

Thanks Chris,
I will try this set up for my last race at Infineon Raceway this week-end.
At the last race at Dixon a week ago I changed from the F axle to the D axle. The kart felt free (better) through the tighter turns, but during the race got bad push and tore up my tires. I will get my dad to put back the F axle and try your base set up to start practice with. When my dad got the kart, it did not have a middle bearing. I will ask him to buy one and put it back in.
Infineon's track is lower grip and in the past I have struggled with a loose on turn in kart. What would be the first thing to consider changing if this happens, using the base set up that you gave me?
I am third in the Norcal Junior Rotax championship. My first year in Rotax and a Birel. I want to beat the CRG and R31 in front of me. :D
Thanks,
Brody

More than likely the D helped in the morning, but, as the track heated up it was probably too soft. A softer axle will release the inside tire quickly and then set it back down and push the front. If the kart breaks loose as soon as you touch the steering wheel I would slow the steering down, remove a half degree of caster, or narrow one thin spacer. How wide were the rear tires when you were last at Infinenon? Raising the axle will help if the rear of the kart is unstable under braking...I would consider testing the F axle up with the middle bearing tight in the heat of the day (if you have the time). Infineneon is a bit tricky at times with the cloud cover, moisture, dust, and sheep debris that you have to deal with in the morning. I would also try a second set of seat stays...

We will be at Infineon racing on Sunday in the Comer class, maybe try to come by on Sat to see you and dad. We tested on Sunday and got to with-in .7 of where we need to be.

Dement told me to put in an ultra-soft axle (which we had a Soft in) but otherwise my set-up was, 15m out in the front, 46.5 in the rear we only have 1m toe and caster but I could not find anyone with a sniper to add 1 more.

We ran high pressures all morning 18-17 psi and the heat (72)of the day we dropped to 16.

We tried so many things on top of Garrett learning the track I am not sure where to find that last half a second. Any help from the braintrust would be greatly excepted!!!

Matt,
All my success at Infineon or any other track in JR 1 was with a MS Kart. We didn't get a Birel until I moved up to Junior Super Sportsman. So unfortunately I don't have any experience or good advice for your Birel set up. Conner Ford is your best bet.
We are still learning with our RX30. Going from the AR 29 to the RX30 for Rotax, and we also run the HPV 2 class with the Monza (R30) chassis.
We will be at Infineon this weekend for both days of racing. Will be good to see you.

For those looking for set up tips for Infineon, I would urge you to work with Cambrian or California Kart World.

Donald is now the new Rotax Service center through SSC West. They can assist in all aspects of racing. The final half second is going to come from driver coaching! Do you need a coach? Try the local dealers and if they are too busy, I can provide a well mannered MRP trained driver coach.

Gary,
Thanks for the advice. I like working with Donald, he has been a great help to me this year. I think though maybe there are too many of us Birel guys pestering him on race weekend. Need more than one Donald!
I did not know he was a Rotax service center, this must be new.
Thanks again,
Brody

Donald is one of the great ones. Yes, they were just signed up by SSC West as a Rotax dealer. It is something we have been working on together for the past three years. There is new movement in the West.

Gary and Chris,
Thanks for the set-up help for my kart.
The last race of the NorCal Rotax Junior championship, I qualified off pole, finished 2nd in the heat race and won the main.
Finishing my first season of Rotax, 3rd in the championship. I am very happy.:D
We ran the set-up you gave us, but I had a bit of push in slower corners during the heat race. I did not want to change anything for the main in case the change made it worse. I knew that I could drive around the problem I had and still win. (saved the pass for the lead at the last corner of the last lap).
Thanks again,
Brody
