Hello,

My 7 year old son started racing this year in Honda Novice, GX160 with a .350" restrictor plate. He is running a brand new AR28 CX frame with all the running gear from my R30 CY so we did not mount the center bearing and it has a 40mm F2.5 rear axle. The rear 4.5 YHC tires are at 45" and the fronts are out 2 large spacers. He is 4'-4" tall and 65 lbs, a little small for this chassis perhaps so all of the weight is added up on the seat. The kart has 44% front weight. Sniper shows no toe with him in it and about two degrees of camber using no offset pills.

I find the kart very hard to push in the pits, short spindle length and @ 30 lbs mounted to the seat doesn't help...but should I add offset pills to increase the castor? what should the camber be? any other suggestions? I am not sure if the kart is properly unloading although it does not look to be pushing.

I have attached a picture to show the setup, mainly the seat position.

Thanks in advance,

Camber should be 0 to 2mm positive on the stand. Caster is 15 degrees static (central pills) and we have run up to 16.5 degrees (1.5 degree pill) in the heat of the summer IF the tires show an understeer. Adding caster will only make the kart harder to push in the pits, but, again if the tires do not show an understeer I wouldn't worry about it. Remember when you are using the Sniper gauge; one box equals 2mm not 2 degrees, one dot equals 1mm. 2 degrees of positive camber means that you have 12 degree spindles on a 10 degree kart. We have had AR28 CX's as both 10 and 12 degree front ends...the R30C has only come in as a 10 degree kart. What is stamped on the bottom of the spindle?
Hope this helps.

Thanks Chris,

I was unaware of the two different angles on the AR28 spindles, I'll take a look tonight. I might need to install those offset pills yet.

Chris,

I think I'm okay, with the kart on the stand it shows 0 camber and on the ground loaded it shows not quite 2mm of negative camber.
