am running junior can. have been wondering what are the best stall speeds to run. is a 2 disc hortsman dry clutch. would lighter springs be more benificial, to bring clutch on quicker, or do i go with heavier springs to increase clamping force?

For me, 8600-8700 is the ideal stall speed especially when utilizing the hairpin turn. This will allow for the clutch to fully engage BEFORE reaching turn 8 allowing the motor to pull up the hill towards turn 9. For the most part, the springs will change how far in or how far out your adjustment will be for the desired engagement. Too soft of a spring will force you to turn in the spring too far and coil bind before the correct RPM (lead to burnt up clutch). Too stiff and you may not have enough tension on the spring which may lead to backing out of the bolt. HDC5b setup as I have written down is the following:
.20-22 airgap
.0910 thickness spring
.950 floater (normally)

However, you cannot beat a fully blueprinted clutch from Adkins.

Hope this helps.
