Hello,

We have a minimax C28-CJ and my son Brandon has been complaining that the kart does not want to stop at the end of the straight even when he pushes hard on the brake pedal. I normally would just go out and buy pads and clean the disk, but I am wondering what else I may want to do or try. The pedal feels good in the pits.

He has a matching cadet which is almost as fast on the straight (due to the gear restriction in the minimax) and he does not have this problem in that kart.

Oh, the pads are about 50% worn, maybe less.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

James

I have written about the advantages of new brake pads in other articles on the forum. I cannot stress enough the value in terms of performance. Your pads may be glazed over or worn out. Just because there is pad material left does not mean that they are going to do their job. From my experience with safety in mind new pads are the best bet.

I have seen lap times improve a full second with new pads due to driver confidence and the ability of the driver to make their brake points in order to get on the throttle. At worst case, take the pads off your other kart and make the switch. We recommend bedding the pads into the specific brake disk. So make the switch from kart to kart may prove to be counter productive.

If you think about the money customers are willing to spend on performance items, the brake pad is the first thing to put on your list.

Please look through our www.gobirel.com site to check other tips on the brakes.
