The following information is found on the Michiana Raceway Park website under "rules" - http://www.mrpmotorsport.com/michianaracewaypark-rules.htm
UPDATE - February 2008: The original purpose of incorporating the ROOKIE 1 class was intended to bring new people in at a young age by stepping them up from kid karts to a stock Yamaha, with restricted carb and exhaust. As a trade out we would not have to add the extra weight needed on these small kids that made lifting a kart a backbreaking job for parents. Our goals were sincere and simple. Yet this past year a few outside avisors got parents stirred up and started a motor battle to try to win races. In light of that past experience and mis-communication we have added rules to tighten the interpretations. (SEE RULES UPDATE-2008)
Our mission is simple. We are here to attempt to create a sealed motor, level playing ground, with strict rules enforcement. Anyone who wishes a more open field of racing is encouraged to move to Micro or Mini max or to the KT100 sportsman category. The past two years of experience with the Rookie 1 class has been successful and we have new people joining us this year. Do not try to twist the intent of this class by finding ways to bend the rules. This will violate the spirit and intent of this class.
RULES UPDATE - 2008: All Rookie one participants are required to run STOCK KT 100 motors. They will go through an inspection and sealing process only through the authorized MRP inspector. This fee is $100. It is also required to purchase a certified carb (Carb model - WA55-1) prepared by Laukautis Racing via the MRP Pro Shop.
The inspection must be completed within 2 weeks prior to racing begins. If you are planning an engine rebuild, the inspection and sealing charge is covered in the cost of the rebuild through the MRP-Approved re-sealing agent.
The following represents the specified carb settings:
- Pop-Off is to be set between 12-14 lbs.
- The fulcrum height is at .060 below the deck w/o a gasket
- Suggested needle settings are 2-1/2 on low-speed and 1/2 on high-speed (will need to be leaned slightly in hot summer months)
Kent Laukaitis has been very active in working with the Walbro carbs and is considered to be one of the leading experts in his field. MRP chose a single-source to supply carbs set to a spcified setting in an effort to assist all of the competitors in having less to worry about and increase the fun level at the track.
- If you have a carb that you want to trade in for exchange credit for the laukitus carb
we will credit you toward the purchase. (Call for details)
- The cost of the carb is $92.50
- These carbs will be numbered by MRP Tech
- They will only be allowed to be rebuilt under the direction of the technical inspector
at the track
- Your engine will be sealed. If there are any alterations to be made to the engine
(such as cleaning the carbon off the piston) this will require the presence of the
technical inspector and a fresh seal. The cost of a new seal is $10
- The spec clutch this year is the L&T Mini. (part #: 2142-m-11) w/ an 11-Tooth driver.
MOTOR & CLUTCH CLAIMING RULES:
Engine Claim Rule: Complete engine packages may be claimed "as is" off any kart including the motor, carb and clutch. It does not include air filter cup, chain guard, exhaust and throttle swivel assembly. This price is to be determined for claiming rights at the time of the claim at the prevailing market prices of all new materials from the same suppliers including the price of motor inspection.
- Motor claim price is $695 (prices subject to change) plus new carb price of $92.50
- Clutch claim price is $280
The race director may decide to claim a motor. If he does, that motor is retired from the program and is replaced with a new stock KT100.
