MRP,

I was hoping you could offer a baseline set-up for an 07 Monza z32. I will be racing this kart in the SKUSA Supernationals in the Rotax masters class. For the 06 karting season I raced an 06 Monza Z32C to the Miller Motorsports Park Masters Championship. FOr 07, I switched to an Arrow B-max and really struggled with it.

As my baseline for the 07 Monza, the 06 one I had was set-up with caster pills, a medium axle, short hubs and depending on grip, one or two seat struts. I always ran the 4th rail out and the front rail in. Rear width was 55" and I can't remember the front width. I used a tillett quarter pad seat and ran mojo tires at 10 lbs rear and 9 lbs front.

How can you prepare me for racing the monza on a high grip track as the supernats will become with all the MG yellow rubber that will be put down. I am all ready planning to go to a soft axle. I am 5 11 and 170 lbs.

Thanks!

I'll have to wait for the race team to return from Stars before we answer. Glad to see you back with the Monza product.

I will offer this comment the initial set up will not be the same as the final set up. In other words you have to attempt to make changes to the kart as the track comes in. Give me two days so we can the official explanation.

The 07 monza and 06 monza are the same. I would probably start with caster out to begin the weekend and add it back as the rubber goes down. Depending on how much we see the soft axle might not work out for you...but we'll see. When the rubbers starts to stack up it generally makes the track seems greasy and rear of the kart will slide and not pick the inside tire up. When this happens we put the M axle in and run maximum caster and a bit of positive camber. We will be in Vegas Tuesday night and will certainly be available for assistance throughout the event. Is anyone else from Miller going to be in attendance?
Let me know if there is any thing specifically you need from us.

Hi Chris...thanks for the reply. I can see where you are going with the stiffer axle. Makes sense. Last year I tuned a birel with a soft axle when the track got sticky and she was hoping in the corners. Would starting with full caster make the kart loose on a green track? I will admit that I struggled with the monza last year until I added caster. It seemed to me that the kart was flat all the time and spun easily under braking. Once the caster was in, the kart was a dream to drive. I never tired a softer or stiffer axle in it.

As far as MMP Birel drivers go, all I know that are going to SuperNats are myself and Austin Issac. I will be pitting with Austin. I will for sure drop by for help. Thanks!!
